Mad
Dog, whose mother calls him Barry Gottlieb most of the
time, has been writing a weekly humor column since 1995.
It's appeared in newspapers and magazines including the Chicago
Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily
News, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston
Phoenix, Sydney Morning Herald, Ottawa
Citizen, Popular Science (South Africa), SilverKris (Singapore
Airlines in-flight magazine), Amtrak's Arrive Onboard,
etc., etc, as well as being read by him over the Pacifica
Radio Network.
He has a number of books in print, including Skywriting
at Night, a novel (Xlibris); Stand
Tall ,
the autobiography of Dr. Isaiah "Ike" McKinnon, former
chief of police of Detroit (Sleeping Bear Press); If
It's Such a Small World Then Why Have I Been Sitting
on This Airplane For Twelve Hours?, a travel
humor compilation (Xlibris); HumorUs, an Australian
compilation (WriteSpot); and Misadventures
of Moms and Disasters of Dads ,
a compilation (Moms in Print).
Over the years he's used his creativity in
a wide range of areas. He won the Virginia Governor's Screenwriting
Competition for his screenplay, Velveeta and the '63
Fleetwood Stigmata, wrote the script for a Silver
Telly and Bronze CINDY award-winning video, and was a finalist
in the Clio Awards. He's written advertising, spent four
years as a radio personality on WVGO (Richmond, Virginia),
sold candles on the streets of New York City, created and
marketed a series of novelty gift items including Croc
O' Shirt, Earl
the Dead Cat and the Silent Vigil Foam Rubber Wind
Chimes, started Richmond Virginia's Tacky
Xmas Decoration Contest and Grand Highly Illuminated House
Tour, produced records, was a cable show host, voice-over
talent, and even acted in TV commercials. How well is still
up for debate.
